July 2020 – Hank

1 month ago · · Comments Off on July 2020 – Hank · Chicago, Chicago's Patient of the Month, Patient of the Month, Uncategorized ·

Hank joined the Wolfson family in April of 2019 at only 3 months old. Little did Hank or his family know that he would be spending most of his puppy-hood at the vet with consistent infections from his ears to his toenails.

It was not until right before Hank’s 1st birthday, that he escaped from his sitter’s home while his owners were on vacation and was hit by a car. Luckily, he dodged a lot of high speed traffic on the highway and did not break any bones during the accident. He did; however, end up with nerve damage in his front left leg.

He crossed a six lane highway and managed to get hit in a school zone, likely saving his life. He didn’t break a single bone, but did incur some nerve damage.

…At the start of his visits, he couldn’t place his left leg on the ground. He constantly knuckled and had a severe limp.

That’s when Hank began his adventure at Integrative Pet Care. During his initial exam, he was very lame on his left front paw and would constantly knuckle on his foot when taking steps. He started his program in January of 2020 and has been coming to his sessions every week since then. These sessions consist of a combination of therapies, which include:  Hydrotherapy, Acupuncture, massage, therapeutic exercise, ultrasound, and laser therapy. His vet, therapists, and family have seen such a dramatic improvement with him.

Hank has made a remarkable recovery.  He loves his exercise time in the gym and is such a good boy sitting for his ultrasound and laser therapies.  It’s been such a joy to work with him and see him thrive gaining so much of his confidence back.

It was a little difficult for Hank to adjust to his new routine. Due to his long recovery, he was not able to play and socialize with other dogs like puppies usually do, so often times he is quite shy and it took some time for Hank to get to know and trust his therapists and vet. After so many months of therapy, you could say he is best friends with everyone at IPC.

He is like a brand new dog from the first time we saw him so many months ago. He was so shy and would bark every time someone he didn’t know walked in the room. Now he runs straight in to the gym and will lay all over you during his treatments. He is such a goofball!

His owners have even noticed his confident boost at home. He now has weekly play dates with his best friend, Eeyore and says he is always so excited in the car on his way to his therapy sessions.

He loves to play with his toys, and get chased around the apartment. Weekly appointments with IPC and playdates with his best friend, Eeyore, are what he looks forward to most. He shakes with excitement during the car ride, and can’t wait to get inside! In his down time, he loves to watch golf, soccer, and hockey. But, no horse racing allowed! Any animal on TV gets Hank riled up.

Even with everything Hank has gone through in the past year, he has never lost his sweet spirit. He has shown so much improvement since coming to IPC and his owners are grateful for the work the staff has done to help Hank. They say most people cannot even tell anymore that he was even hit by a car. He really is a miracle puppy!

Hank is a survivor! He had such a traumatic experience so early in his life, he had a little anxiety as a result of his injury. He would bark and was anxious around new people. Through rehabilitation and medical management, he has not only regained the use of his left front leg, he also has gained so much confidence! He never once complained about any of his therapies and he loves to snuggle with his therapists now. He has always been such a big personality and it has been a real pleasure to watch him progress. I have been so impressed with how far he’s come. He’s such an amazing boy and we really adore both he and his owners.
